International Appeals
for Peace and Justice

The COVID19 pandemic is laying bare the staggering inequalities between human beings and the huge injustices that maintain our structurally unfair societies. At the same time, technology and universal communication are revealing rising levels of awareness of the problems facing humanity, rapidly increasing capacity for universal co-operation and a growing concern for the common good.

No-one is safe until everyone is safe!

Justice & Peace in the Diocese of Westminster are adding our voices to those calling for a better way of life that sustains every single person on this planet. We are currently inviting Catholics and all people of good will to contribute to two large global campaigns that we believe can make a significant difference to the kind of society that emerges from the lockdown when the current crisis recedes.

UN Global Ceasefire

Watch the appeal for a Global Ceasefire from the UN Secretary General

From the UN Secretary General, António Guterres: “Today, I am calling for an immediate global ceasefire in all corners of the world. It is time to put armed conflict on lockdown and focus together on the true fight of our lives…”

The Jubilee Debt Campaign group advocate for debt relief for the Global South to keep money in developing countries for healthcare to respond to the pandemic. They also campaign for remission of household debts in the UK arising from government-imposed coronavirus measures.

“While millions are facing health and other impacts around the world, the economic impacts could spell disaster for countries in the global south. The cost of borrowing has gone up dramatically, and they are getting less money for products like copper and coffee, on which their economies depend.”

Call on the UK Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, to push the IMF to cancel the debt…
